Marcie Cohen Ferris presents a virtual talk about food and foodways across North Carolina. Ferris has authored books such as The Edible South: The Power of Food and the Making of an American Region, Matzoh Ball Gumbo: Culinary Tales of the Jewish South, and most recently, Ferris edited Edible North Carolina: A Journey Across a State of Flavor. Edible North Carolina is a collection from journalists, farmers, chefs, entrepreneurs, scholars, and food activists and offers a deeply immersive portrait of North Carolina’s contemporary food landscape.
Marcie Cohen Ferris is professor of American studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ferris’s research and teaching interests include southern history and culture–particularly the foodways and material culture of the American South, the history of the Jewish South, and American Jewish identity and culture. She is a former president of the Southern Foodways Alliance. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link and will open three weeks before the event.
